Brunch: Manhattan Beach Post
Jonathan Gold was spot on when he added MB Post as part of his 101 best restaurants. It is hard for a South Bay restaurant to get onto LA's restaurant list, and sitting comfortably at #50, I hope MB Post is here to stay. We had a great brunch that started off with some personalized service. My last name, from the reservation, was on the envelope of the menu. What a nice touch. The bloody mary, a quintessential brunch drink, was spicy and salty, just the way I like it! Our drink was followed by a house cured trout lox and bagel sandwich with all the fixings, poached egg and creamy polenta (yum!), and the pièce de résistance: the ultra sexy eggs benedict. There is nothing better than breaking into a perfectly cooked poached egg and watching it ooze onto the rest of the plate! It was delicious and the right amount of food for 2.
Do: walk the pier and along the beach
It was not a sunny day, but if you are not planning on getting in the water, it is probably the best weather for strolling. Not hot and cold. It didn't look like it deterred people from swimming though! I love living in downtown LA, but it is so nice to enjoy the fresh sea breeze, slow it down, and think about what is most important in life. The beach is a great place to reflect.
Play: Hike the sand dunes and the stairs
The sand dunes require reservations and a $1 payment, which is a small fee to feel like a kid again, and get a great workout. If that is not enough for you, you can run the stairs. The shade of the tree and the sea breeze will keep you motivated.
Lunch: Fishing with Dynamite
After our insane workout, we ate at Fishing with Dynamite. #1 I am a bad blogger. #2 I was super hungry, so I forgot to take pictures. But imagine this: fresh, raw Peruvian scallops with a blood orange slice, soft shell crab po'boy, perfectly cooked salmon lyonnaise salad, and a vanilla beer cocktail. Sometimes the imagination is sooo much better than the real thing. Next time, I'll try harder to be a good blogger.
